Soft Skills for

Hard Core Technical Professionals

Too many technical projects fail.  In fact, various industry surveys show that 45% to 75% of projects fail. They are either over budget or significantly past deadline.   A recent survey summarized input from 250 technical leaders who cited the biggest reason for failure: an absence of so-called soft skills. Within the survey, 58 percent chose lack of empathy; 55 percent selected lack of emotional ability; 53 percent cited inability to communicate or connect with others. All are critical soft skills, not previously considered so critical for technical professionals.

The role of technology in most organizations is changing. It’s becoming more strategic and more customer-focused, requiring a broader range of skills. Additionally, technology groups have often been overwhelmed just keeping up with technological changes and customer demands. As a result, they have not given appropriate attention to strengthening the “leadership bench” for the technology group.

Soft Skills for Hard Core Technical Professionals advances competencies in three critical areas:

  • Communications and Emotional Intelligence
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork and collaboration

The workshops use the latest techniques in adult learning including simulations, case studies, behavior modeling, application exercises, group discussion, and skill building. The emphasis is on application rather than theory.  It enables participants to learn new competencies and gives them the tools to apply them in the real world.
